Hm!

That was interesting....

I need a full knee replacement the inside leg bit is completely knackered and there is so much swelling and pain in there thats why it wont straighten.

I am only 35

if I was 55 he says he wouldnt hesitate

so

he is going to do keyhole and debridement and full synovectomy.

He didnt seem convinced that things would be better from this and that the full replacement would be avoided.

so I said I had met people in their late 20s with knees done. he said "yes and Im doing the revisions in their 40s".

no answer to that!

he wasnt phased by the ESR at 104 but was thinking I would need at least overnight in hosp. I think a few days....

AWFUL experience with the radiographer who spoke limited English and wanted me to kneel up and lean forwards!!! or roll onto my tummy and was convinced I just didnt understand her when actually I just cant roll onto my front...! AWFUL!

what do you think?

Hi Jenni

Sorry you have had such a bad experience at your appointment. I know you are disappointed but what they are going to do might make a lot of difference and improve things. Any surgery causes a lot of trauma and there is concern over having a general anaesthetic so because you are young they wouldn't want you to go through this procedure twice. Of course it could be to do with money but I wouldn't be so cynical!!!

Good luck with it.

I dont know if its money really- I think that second revisions of replacements are never as successful.

Perhaps it is money! I dont know!

The knee certainly isnt going to be fixed up quickly- its about 26wks wait for the arthroscopy.

Hi Jenni,

Sorry you had such bad news about your knee.
Apparently revisions are much harder to do, and with a lower success rate, than the initial replacement.
What an idiot of a radiographer! Kneel ?? I think most of us have forgotten what the word means!
I'm waiting for an arthroscopy and partial meniscectomy, perhaps we should go in together? The waiting list here is only about 12 weeks.
Hope you can get it done soon.

Love, Doreen xx

Jenni, that must have been absolutely horrendous with the radiographer, it would have been bad enough trying to explain to anyone just how impossible it was for you to get in such a position, let alone someone who couldn t understand what you was trying to say ! I had to have an MRI scan on my hands/ wrists and had to lie on a bed in the superman flying position for about 20 mins each one, put it this way I would never ever do it again if my shoulders were that bad, whatever the reason for one.

I sincerely hope putting off the knee replacement has nothing to do with financial cost, that seems a terribly long wait for the other surgery especially in your position.
